If you want to start a new career in SAP, you'll need to learn the scope of the product. Use the Internet and read a couple of books on SAP, including the The New SAP Book by Michael Doane. The Dummies Series is also good for beginning SAP consultants.
When choosing an SAP module or modules, figure out how your existing skills will benefit you. If you have skills in finance and accounting, you might want to consider the financial modules. It's much easier to break into the industry if you have extensive experience in another field, such as HR, accounting or management. Communication skills are also important; if you don't have any experience with customer service and communication, you should find a position that will put you on the forefront of customer relations.
